Russian opposition activist Sofia Sapega has been transferred from Belarus to Russia. The 25-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison in May 2022.

She was caught in Belarus in May 2021 with her boyfriend Roman Pratasevich, a dissident blogger who is critical of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. The case had caused international outrage and prompted the European Union and the U.S. to impose further sanctions on Belarus. The oppositionist had fled Belarus in 2019 and had worked as an editor at the Poland-based Nexta Live channel.
