Colombian businessman Alvaro Pulido, an associate of Venezuelan envoy Alex Saab, was arrested in Saab's country. This comes as the government of Nicolas Maduro launched a vast anti-corruption operation in mid-March.

In total, at least 58 people, some of them high-ranking officials, were arrested. The two men are suspected, among other things, of embezzling money from the Venezuelan government's food aid program. In February 2020, according to the World Food Programme, a third of the population did not have enough to eat.
