Nearly 600,000 people in the United States are homeless, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Los Angeles and New York are the cities with the most homeless people. The root of the problem is deep-rooted and long-standing social inequality, analysts say. The number of homeless people in California has increased by at least 3,2 to 25,17 over the past three years, but shelters for the homeless in the state have decreased from 38,5000 to 16,5000.
