Amnesty International has called on the Lebanese authorities to "halt the unlawful deportations of Syrian refugees" It fears that they would be "tortured or persecuted" upon their return to their war-torn country. The call comes after Lebanese authorities deported about 50 Syrians to their country in April.

There are about two million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, about 830,000 of whom are registered with the U.N., the agency says. The Syrian government has denied that any of its citizens are being persecuted.
