Administrative detention has been a systematic policy of the Israeli occupation for decades. The prisoner movement went on hunger strikes and boycott the courts to denounce this policy.

In 2022, 75 prisoners fought several empty bowel battles to protest several arbitrary measures, most of which were strikes against administrative detention. The longest of these was the 172-day strike of prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, which deliberately charged him with continuing to arrest him and repudiate the agreement. The Israeli occupation has practiced a policy of administrative detention since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967.
