Swedish Democrats are pushing to allow uranium mining in Västgötabergen. The area is home to one of the largest uranium deposits in Sweden.

In the 70s, local protests stopped plans to resume uranium mining. Now 25 associations are calling for the issue to be dropped from the local agenda. They are concerned about the effect of uranium mining on the local environment and cultural values. The current government has spoken out in favor of new Swedish nuclear power plants. The Swedish parliament is expected to vote on the issue next month.
