Since the coup in early 2021, foreign weapons and materials for weapons production have entered the Southeast Asian country. The biggest deal with the junta is done by Russia, followed by Singapore and Thailand.

The United Nations Security Council has so far not imposed any international sanctions to stop these exports. The UN has called for sanctions against Myanmar's state-owned oil and gas companies, whose revenues are used to finance the arms deals, to be imposed by the end of the year, but no action has been taken so far.
