Hindu social media influencers have been spreading false demographic data to claim that India is undergoing a reconfiguration into a Muslim country. The claims came to the fore shortly after the United Nations declared India ahead of China in terms of population.
Hindu nationalist MP Rakesh Sinha introduced a bill proposing to limit the number of children in India to two per household. The bill was withdrawn after critics accused the lawmaker of targeting Muslims after he gave a speech focusing on the varying birth rates between Hindus and Muslims.
