Pauline Newman, 95, is the oldest sitting federal judge in the United States. She was appointed by Ronald Reagan during his tenure as U.S.

president. She filed a lawsuit against a panel of judges who questioned her mental capacity. The panel asked Newman to consult a neurologist to see if she had a cognitive disorder. Newman now has until May 23 to announce whether she wants to comply with the conditions. Otherwise, she is threatened with criminal proceedings. The judge has served on the court since 1984 and made several landmark judgments.
