Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, revealed on March 28 that four passenger cars developed by the company for overseas markets had been irregular. Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda apologized at a press conference in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, where some of the affected vehicles were sold under the Toyota brand on May 8.

In the Toyota Motor Group, Hino Motors has also been found to be fraudulent in inspection data such as exhaust gases. Toyota has indicated a policy of conducting group-wide inspections to ensure that certification tests are being conducted appropriately.
