The award ceremony for the Japan International Prize was held at a venue in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. The prize is given to those who have made outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology.

The ceremony was attended by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan. The four laureates were presented with commemorative plaques with smiles on their faces. The winners were: Professor Masataka Nakazawa of Tohoku University and Prof. Carl Deiseroth of the University of Oxford.
