The winners of this year's Green Science Award are Nori Kurata, Professor Emeritus of the National Institute of Genetics. Professor Yoshihiko Tsumura of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba, received the award from Prime Minister Kishida at the ceremony venue in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
Their Majesties applauded the awardees and congratulated them after the ceremony. Mr Kurata said, "When I explained that the origin of rice has been clarified through recent research, His Majesty the Emperor said, 'Japan is interesting because it is a country centered on rice.'"
