In the siege of Wako, 51 days of negotiations between the Davidian community and the FBI continued to besiege the community compound. On April 19, 1993, in an attempt to pressure members of the sect out, US federal agents stormed the building with tanks and launched a tear gas attack.

The attack ignited fires of unknown origin, resulting in the deaths of 80 people, including David Korish and 28 children. The siege lasted two days, and rescue forces were able to remove 10 children from the compound after a series of negotiations.
