Leather carving is a handicraft technique of embossing on leather with specific rotary carving knives and print engraving tools, also known as tattoos on leather. Leather products first appeared in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, when they were mostly used to make saddles and leather armor, which were military materials.

Later, in order to enhance the beauty, people began to process leather, carve patterns, dye bright colors or set gemstones and jade. Leather carvings gradually evolved into works of art, integrating practicality, appreciation and treasure.
