Actor Ingvar Hirdwall died on Thursday, aged 88. He is perhaps best known for playing the neighbor of police officer Martin Beck in more than 45 "Beck" films.

He also played old man Pettson in SVT's Christmas calendar Santa Claus Machine, and Knappestöparen in Ibsen's Peer Gynt. He was awarded a Guldbagge for Best Actor in 1981 for the film "Children's Island" and was awarded another Guld bagge in 2003 in the category Best Supporting Actor for "If I Turn Around"
