U.S. special forces on Sunday began a mission to rescue about 100 embassy staff and their relatives.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said British troops had also rescued diplomats and their families. Germany and France said they had also begun evacuating their nationals and from other countries. Two French planes carrying about 200 people of various nationalities also landed in Djibouti. The U.N. Security Council has called for a cessation of hostilities and a real truce on the ground in Sudan.
