A revised law has been enacted to strengthen measures against heat stroke caused by severe heat. A new "Heat Stroke Special Warning Alert" will be announced on particularly hot days.

Local governments will promote the introduction of "cooling shelters" that are air-conditioned as summer shelters. 125 municipalities nationwide are already working on these initiatives. In Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, about 6 summer shelters, including public facilities, private pharmacies, public baths, and bone clinics, are open from June to September every year.
