In 2022, China will add 382 new museums, bringing the total number of museums in the country to 6565. The theme of this year's International Museum Day is "Museum, Sustainability and the Betterment of the World" The main venue of the event is in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, where the event will take place on May 18.

The event will be followed by a series of events in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.
