The former secretary general of the Austrian Alpine Club, Robert Renzler, died in a climbing accident on Saturday. The 67-year-old fell about 60 meters into the depths of the Stafflach wall in the Tyrolean Alps.

His son is said to have abseiled immediately, with the support of another climber, to the fallen and tried to resuscitate his father. He was taken to hospital by a rescue helicopter, but succumbed to his injuries before arriving. The Alpine Club confirmed the identity of the dead man in a obituary.
