Deficiencies were found in six wooden apartment buildings built by Sekisui Chemical in the four prefectures of Osaka, Chiba, Shizuoka, and Hyogo. The gypsum boards necessary for the walls called "boundary walls" for preventing the spread of fire and sound insulation were missing or insufficient.

The company is in the process of repairing the deficiencies, and will consider temporarily evicting residents as necessary in accordance with the renovation work. The same type of apartment building was built and sold between 1987 and 2000, and in addition to the six buildings found to be defective, there are 6 housing of the same type in 13 prefecture.
