The 76th Cannes Film Festival got off to a flying start on Tuesday with the premiere of the historical drama "Jeanne du Barry" by French director Maïwenn. The film narrates the relationship between King Louis XV, played by Johnny Depp, and his scandalous courtesan Jeanne du Barry.

The director has been the target of a complaint for assaulting Mediapart journalist Edwy Plenel since March. On Tuesday, more than 100 actors and actresses, including Julie Gayet, Géraldine Nakache, Jérémie Renier or Lauremie Calamy, denounced in turn the film.
