British author Salman Rushdie was seriously injured in a knife attack in August last year. He appeared in his first television interview since the incident to talk about his upcoming novel "Victory City" The book is about the rise and fall of a medieval empire in southern India.

Rushdie has lived under constant protection since he published the book "The Satanic Verses" in 1988. The book caused an outcry in parts of the Muslim world after one of the characters was interpreted as a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad.
