Dozens of rockets were fired Wednesday from the Gaza Strip into Israel, in response to new Israeli strikes. In total, sixteen people including four children have been killed since Tuesday.

Islamic Jihad, described as "terrorist" by Israel, the European Union and the United States, announced that several of its fighters had been killed in the strikes. Israeli security officials are preparing "for any escalation scenario, on more than one front," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday. Around Gaza, residents of neighbouring Israeli communities have taken refuge in shelters, on instructions from the Civil Defense.
