Wassim Nasr was recently able to visit the province of Idlib, in northwestern Syria, controlled by the armed Islamist rebels of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. The territory has been the scene of fighting since the first months of the uprising against the regime of Bashar al-Assad in 2011.

It was also one of the first theaters of abuses committed by jihadist groups, especially against the Druze and Christian minorities. A virtual truce has lasted in the province for more than three years with the Syrian regime, despite incursions and air strikes.
