A woman who was passing by by car called the police near Komaoka Elementary School in Makoma, Minami-ku, Sapporo City, saying that she had seen a bear. The woman described the bear she saw as being more than one meter long and sitting near the river.
A man in the car reported that there were two bears that seemed to be parents and children. No traces of bears have been confirmed so far, but the police are strengthening patrols and calling for attention to residents because there is an elementary school nearby.
