Pentecost is the third major festival in the Christian church year. The name derives from the Greek "Pentekoste", which means "the fiftieth day" The feast is celebrated 50 days after Easter, the resurrection of Jesus.

Pentecost has its origins in the Jewish harvest festival of Shavuot. According to biblical tradition, the disciples were able to speak and understand other languages after being filled with the Holy Spirit. The white dove is a well-known symbol of the festival.
