Police have arrested a man who is said to have set the fire in a hostel in New Zealand's capital Wellington. The fire in the multi-storey "Loafers Lodge" in the Newtown district broke out late Monday evening.

Dozens of people had been rescued from the burning building, some fled to the roof. The man was caught on Thursday afternoon local time, reported Radio New Zealand, citing the security forces. The accusations against him could be extended. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
