Anna-Karin Palm has been elected as a member of the Swedish Academy. She says she sees it as a fun but responsible assignment.

The new member will take up her seat on the Academy's board of directors in January. She will be the 16th member to join the Academy since it was established in 1872. The Academy's first member was the poet and writer Johan Persson. He was elected to the Academy in 1973. The last member to take up his seat was the writer and poet Erik Eriksson in 1978.
