In a second trial, the High Court of Japan ruled that the purchase of a luxury car was not illegal. The first trial had ruled that it was illegal to buy a car for more than 2 million yen.

The second trial found that the decision to buy the car was justified. The decision was made on the basis that the car would be used to provide security for the Imperial Family and other dignitaries. The original decision was to charge the owner of the car the full cost of the vehicle.
