On the morning of the 4th, a large truck collided with the wall of a tunnel on the up line of the Joshinetsu Expressway in Shimonita Town, Gunma Prefecture. The driver, Hiroshi Shimizu (53), an office worker from Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, was taken to a hospital for treatment, but was later confirmed dead.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident, and soft drinks from truckloads were scattered at the scene.
