The Israeli military announced Tuesday that it had carried out strikes on "Islamic Jihad targets" in the Gaza Strip. According to the Ministry of Health of this Palestinian enclave, at least nine people were killed before dawn on Tuesday.

Among the dead were women and children, the ministry said, without elaborating on the identity of the dead. In Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, an AFP photographer saw the body of a man identified as Jihad Ghannam, an official with the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
