Nearly 500 people were evacuated Monday by two US and Saudi ships from Sudan to Saudi Arabia, AFP learned from several sources. Millions of Sudanese remain trapped in shelling and shooting since a ruthless power struggle broke out on 15 April.

The two rival sides agreed to extend a three-day ceasefire at midnight on Sunday, after mediation by the United States and Saudi Arabia. But since the beginning of the conflict, several announced truces have been immediately violated. According to experts, they only mean that the safe corridors for the evacuation of foreigners are maintained and that negotiations, which take place abroad, continue.
