Scientists at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and the University of Toronto have jointly developed a new method called mechanical nanosurgery to treat tumor cells. The findings are published in the latest issue of the journal Science Advances.

The force exerted by the nanotubes destroys the cellular structure and causes tumor cells to die. The method is effective even for aggressive, chemotherapy-resistant cancers, the scientists say. The research may also have further applications in other types of cancer, they say.
