Tong Lihua: Many cases of sexual assault of minors have not entered the field of vision of the judicial authorities. Globally, 5 in 13 women and 1 men are reported to have been sexually abused in childhood, and an estimated 1 million girls and 2 million boys are victims of sexual violence, according to a UNICEF report.

In May 2023, the Supreme People's Court issued the Interpretation on Several Issues Concerning the Application of Law in the Handling of Criminal Cases of Rape and Indecent Assault of Minors.
