Tunisian thinker and politician, one of the founders of the Islamic Tendency Movement. He was tried for his proselytizing and political activism, and lived for nearly two decades in exile.

He contributed with Ennahda to the success of the post-Ben Ali era. He is married to a Tunisian woman named Fatima Jouini, and they have two sons and four daughters. He received his primary education in the village of Hamma, studied middle and high school in the city of Gabes.
