Harry Belafonte, the "King of Calypso", was born on March 1, 1927 in the Harlem neighborhood of New York in the United States. He was a singer, actor, producer and activist and was a front figure in the 50's folk music scene.

His most famous song is "Day-O (Banana Boat Song)." He was married three times and leaves behind four children and his wife Pamela Frank, whom he married in 2008. His last film role was in Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman"
