Galicia will advance to April 10 the vaccination against herpes zoster in healthy population. The vaccine will be administered systematically to people who turn 65 and 80 years old.

The measure is well received by professionals mainly because it prevents one of the most frequent consequences of shingles: postherpetic neuralgia. Shingles is a disease caused by the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus after infection by this virus, which is confined in the sensory ganglia and can be reactivated.
