He was one of the founders of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars. He was born on 11 Rabi' al-Thani in Constantine, Algeria.

He is remembered for his work on the interpretation of the Qur'an. He also wrote a book on the meaning of Islam, which was published in 1950. He died on April 16, 1962, at the age of 80. He left behind a wife and a son, both of whom are now in their 60s and 70s, and a daughter, also in her 60s.
