A forest fire in an ammunition-contaminated area near Jüterbog in Brandenburg has continued to spread. Because of the danger posed by old ammunition there, the fire brigade could not intervene from the ground.
Initially, a requested firefighting aircraft from the Harz Mountains was deployed, then a helicopter from the Federal Police was added. It is not yet clear whether a helicopter will continue to be available to fight forest fires from the air in the future. The Brandenburg State Fire Brigade Association considers helicopter deployment to be more sensible.
