A number of companies are taking bold measures to address childcare leave. The aim is to increase the acquisition rate of male employees.

The amount paid depends on the number of people in the workplace and the period of time off. The average statutory childcare leave is 37.6 days, according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's Basic Survey on Equal Employment. If a male employee or the husband of a female employee takes a total of three months or more of childcare leave, he or she will be paid 3 million yen.
