British author Martin Amis has died at the age of 73. His wife, author Isabel Fonseca, said Amis died of esophageal cancer.

Amis made his debut as a writer in 1973 and achieved his greatest success in the 1980s. Two of his best-known novels, "Money" and "Woman Seeks Her Killer", give a critical picture of life in Britain under Margaret Thatcher. The news of Ami's death comes a day after the film adaptation of his novel "The zone of interest" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
