More than thirty people have lost their lives since Tuesday in clashes between Israel and Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip. Israel eliminated a new military leader of Islamic Jihad on Friday (May 12th), bringing to 33 Palestinians and one Israeli the death toll from rocket and missile clashes.

The violence began Tuesday with Israeli strikes targeting Islamic Jihad, classified as a "terrorist organization" by Israel, the European Union and the United States. Egypt, the traditional mediator between the warring parties, is working to secure a truce that would end the most serious escalation of violence since August 2022.
