Half of the galleries and art museums that are members of the industry organization Visual Arts Sweden have worried about having to close down in the past five years. The economic situation means that many artists who exhibit do not get paid.
Artists have long found it difficult to get paid when they participate in exhibitions. In 2009, the MU agreement was introduced, which is intended to guarantee a reasonable fee. This applies to state institutions, but should also guide all organisers who receive public support. The Government will review the agreement so that it becomes easier to use.
