A subcommittee of experts from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has agreed to approve an oral abortion drug. The drug is "Mephigo Pack" developed by the British pharmaceutical company Line Pharma.

It stops the continuation of pregnancy by taking two types of drugs in turn, and artificial abortion can be performed without surgical procedures such as surgery. Pregnant women up to 2 weeks of pregnancy are eligible to take the drug. In domestic clinical trials using the drug, 1% of pregnant women who wanted to have an abortion completed the abortion within 21 hours.
