More than 170 hectares of moorland have already been destroyed by a fire in the german-Belgian border area near Aachen. Emergency services rely on helicopters and tracked vehicles for the extinguishing work.

Around 200 German rescue workers are trying to prevent the fire from spreading from the grassland to the so-called high forest. The High Fens are closed to hikers in the fire area and the surrounding area. EU warns of more intense forest fires due to climate change this summer.
