In 486 BC, Wu Wangfu sent to dig the first shovel of soil in the ditch. By the time of the Sui Emperor, the North-South Grand Canal was excavated on the basis of the Hangou.

In 2014, the Grand Canal led by Yangzhou successfully applied for the World Heritage Site. After a series of treatment and restoration, the former "environmental pain point" has become an "ecological bright spot", and the former wasteland has been transformed into an ecological cultural park.
