Most patients admitted to hospital for an acute respiratory infection with a proven viral cause receive antibiotics. The unjustified use of these drugs has negative adverse effects on the patient himself and also on the community.

Antibiotic Use Optimization Programs (PROA) work on optimizing the prescription of antibiotics in hospitals and primary care. The most important risk factor for the development of antibiotic resistance is antibiotic pressure. Its reduction contributes to reducing the growing expansion of infections by resistant bacteria. The study was presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
