Connoisseurs will have recognized the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 EVO II. A long name for what was a supercharged version of the wise Mercedes 190 sedan. The 190 EVO has now acquired cult status, so it's no surprise that someone has decided to reinterpret it with a restomod, in the manner of what Singer does with the Porsche 911, or Redux with the BMW M3 E30.
The someone in question is not just anyone. HWA is a company founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht. Aufrecht is the A in... AMG. Suffice to say that the guy has a special affinity with Mercedes.
Rare and (very) expensive
So the idea is to go around the classifieds to find Mercedes 190E, and to make them HWA EVO. It's unclear at this stage what the base engine will be used for the project, but it will certainly be pushed well beyond the 235 hp of the EVO II of the 1990s.
We will have to wait until 2025 to see the result, and by then, it is a safe bet that the 100 units planned, at a unit price of some 700,000 euros, will all already be allocated.
