The Hamburg-based optician group Fielmann is expanding overseas. The company will acquire Michigan-based optician SVS Vision and specialized e-commerce platform Befitting, Fielmann said on Wednesday. With the acquisitions, "we are following our Vision 2025, as part of which we are digitizing and internationalizing our family business," said CEO Marc Fielmann.
According to the information, SVS Vision has around 650 employees, operates more than 80 stores in nine US states and is the market leader at least in its home state of Michigan. "The transaction is expected to close by August 31, 2023, subject to customary conditions," Fielmann explained.
Befitting operates an online platform that specialises in the purchase of glasses for customers with medical eye insurance. The company behind it, Eyevious Style, employs 26 people in Canada and the United States, according to Fielmann. The transaction is expected to close immediately.
With hundreds of branches in Germany and other European countries, Fielmann is considered the market leader in Europe.
