Let's move on to the tax issue. Imported and domestic cars were taxed more on domestic cars, even if the price of the car was the same. This is because the standard for taxing was more favorable to imported cars, and we told you a while ago that we will correct this in the future. Starting next month, taxes on domestic cars will be reduced by hundreds of thousands of won.

This story was covered by reporter Jo Ki-ho.

When you buy an imported car with
a selling price of 6 million won, the tax is now about 100 million won cheaper than a domestic car of the same price.

This is because domestic cars are taxed based on the combined manufacturing cost, distribution cost, and sales margin of KRW 5.630 million, but in the case of imported cars, the tax is calculated at the import price of KRW 4.80 million.

The price of tea was the same, but the tax base of domestic tea was higher, and as a result, the tax burden was higher, which was also reflected in the consumer price.

As the controversy over reverse discrimination in domestic cars grew, the National Tax Service decided to set the time of application of the tax rate from the factory export price instead of the sales price, and to lower the tax levy threshold by 18%.

It will be applied to domestic cars with a capacity of 1 or fewer people that will be shipped on the 8st of the next month, and the rate will be maintained for the next 3 years.

[Ko Young-il, Director of the Consumption Tax Division of the National Tax Service: Wouldn't the tax on domestic cars go down and the consumer price will be lowered accordingly?

With this move, Granger is expected to be 54,52 won, Sorento 41,3 won, and Torres 5,5 won.

However, the individual excise tax rate for automobiles, which has been temporarily reduced to stimulate consumption, is a double whammy.

It's down to 6.1% now, but it could go back to 5% next month.

[Lim Dong-won, Research Fellow, Korea Economic Research Institute: If the 80.<>% reduction in the automobile opening tax, which was extended until June, is not extended, I am concerned that the two parts will be in conflict and consumers will not feel the savings.]

The government plans to decide as early as this week whether to extend the cut in the car opening tax.
